As a Virtual Accountant at Fintelligent, you own the foundational financial data layer for a portfolio of professional services business owners. You reconcile their accounts, vouch data and close month-end. More importantly, you are the person who makes sure every number our analysts and CFOs touch downstream is accurate, timely, and trustworthy.

When we help a founder add a million dollars of EBITDA it is because the data underneath was clean from day one.

A little about us

Fintelligent is a modern fractional finance department built for founders running $2M to $10M professional services and SaaS businesses. We combine Virtual Accounting, Virtual Analysis, and Virtual CFO services into one integrated offering built on our Four Pillars: Accounting, Reporting, Planning & Analysis, and Advice.

Our founder Rob Ripp wrote the Amazon #1 Bestseller Finance for Founders because too many great entrepreneurs were flying blind on their numbers. That mission runs through everything we do. We are headquartered in Chatham, NJ and hire remotely across the Eastern and Central time zones.

Where this role can lead

We hire Virtual Accountants who want the accounting work to be the starting point, not the ceiling. 

If you are strong at the data layer and curious about what sits on top of it, we will give you the opportunity to move up the Four Pillars: into Virtual Analysis work, and eventually into Virtual CFO work if that is the path you want. Several members of our team are on that trajectory now.

We will not push you to leave the seat if you love it. Excellent Virtual Accountants are rare and we treat them as the foundation of the firm. But if you want to grow into analysis and advisory work, we will build the bridge with you.

What success looks like in your first 90 days

Who thrives here

We hire clear thinkers who are coachable and willing to go the extra mile when it matters. People who take the work seriously without taking themselves too seriously. Operators more than clock-watchers.

You will do well here if you:

Have 5 or more years managing transactional accounting for multiple clients at the same time. Backgrounds in outsourced accounting firms, virtual practices, multi-client bookkeeping environments, and public accounting all work

Are genuinely comfortable talking with founders and business owners about their numbers. You like the people part of the work, not just the data.

Are fluent in QuickBooks Online, including bank feeds, reconciliations, and month-end close.

Have hit monthly close deadlines in a high-volume, deadline-driven environment and can tell us exactly how you did it.

Are tech savvy and genuinely knowledgeable about AI. You are already using it in your work and want to go further.

Are a self-starter who takes ownership on a small team. You run your own playbook without constant oversight, and when something goes wrong, you bring the fix with the flag.

Our hiring process

We run a thorough process because our clients trust us with sensitive financial information, and because we want to get the fit right for you as much as for us. 

Here is exactly what to expect:

  1. Application. Submit your application through Breezy.
  2. Screening questionnaire. Answer a short set of knockout questions to confirm the basics of fit.
  3. Video response. Record one short video (under 4 minutes) answering a single combined question about how you manage multi-client close work and how you use technology to make it better.
  4. Who Interview with our COO (60 minutes). A structured conversation about your career, your strongest work, and where you have struggled. We ask for specifics.
  5. Founder interview with Rob (30 minutes). A direct conversation with our founder and CEO about fit, career goals, and what working together would look like.
  6. Background and reference checks. We run a standard background check and speak with two or three of your former supervisors. This typically takes 3 to 5 business days and runs in parallel.
  7. Paid work trial ($250, approximately 3 hours). A hands-on exercise using realistic client scenarios. We pay you for your time regardless of outcome. This is the best way for both of us to see if the work fits.
  8. Offer. If everything aligns, we extend an offer.

This role involves handling confidential client financial data.
